Druid Chase is the name of the singer, not the group. It was the stage name for my mother, Audrey Kirby, during the last years of her career. She was born and raised in Detroit, where she sang in her father's Baptist church. She was a housewife with two young sons when she started singing professionally. She said that she was singing in an elevator, when another passenger complimented her on her voice and introduced himself as an agent. She wound up in New York city a couple of years later, where she first sang "Take Me In Your Garden". In the early 60's she found herself in Berlin for a 2 month stage show at the Friedrichstadt Palast. The huge success that resulted translated into several years in Germany, performing throughout Europe, and penultimately, giving London a try. This recording represents the peak of her work in England. Soon, she was back in Germany, then married and moved to Ghana, and finally returned to the US, where she passed away in 1990.
